Unchained Voices is an advocacy & empowerment art show, based in Denver. The show is a collaborative effort created on behalf of incarcerated artists in Colorado. The Unchained Voices committee is comprised of community members, forensic social workers, public and private defense attorneys, community organizers, and family members of incarcerated people.

Unchained Voices’ events feature art and other works created by persons currently incarcerated at a jail or Colorado Department of Corrections facility. The proceeds from art sales are provided directly to the artist—to fulfill a need identified by the individual. These “needs” include both personal and charitable causes.

Unchained Voices 2024 Exhibition 

We are thrilled to be partnering with the Boulder Public Library for our 2024 exhibition. Selected artworks from this exhibition can be seen in Boulder Public Library’s Canyon Gallery during public library hours from May 16th, 2024 to June 22nd, 2024. These works in addition to the works featured exclusively online in this virtual gallery can be purchased up until June 22nd. Purchased artwork can either be picked up at our closing reception at the Boulder Public Library (more information below), at our designated artwork pickup day on the University of Denver’s campus the last week of June (more info to come), or you can add on shipping and handling to your purchase and provide a mailing address to have your artwork shipped to you.

Please join us at our closing reception on Sat. June 22nd from 1pm-4pm for a community-wide celebration of the exhibition and a panel discussion about the history and mission of Unchained Voices and advocacy via the arts. Artwork purchased from the in-person or online gallery can be picked up at this event. The celebration will take place at the Boulder Public Library in the Canyon Gallery and adjoining courtyard where light refreshments will be served.
